Lettera aperta di Ermisio Mazzocchi al PSE

Egregio/a,
insieme a moltissimi altri, anche io, come iscritto al PSE, sento il bisogno di esporre a lei alcune brevi considerazioni in merito al ruolo che il PSE – Socialisti & Democratici – debba avere oggi, in un contesto storico che ha visto grandi trasformazioni e un’Europa smarrita e confusa.
Non dobbiamo nasconderci che in tale realtà ciò che più deve preoccuparci è l’avanzamento di una Destra, ben organizzata e coesa, che costituisce un grande pericolo per la democrazia.
L’elezione di Trump e l’affermazione di Musk hanno peggiorato la situazione in quanto essi mirano a creare un forte fronte a livello mondiale che ha come obiettivo di indebolire le forze democratiche e progressiste e di imporre una politica totalitarista e di chiaro stampo imperialista.
Tale situazione richiede una urgente e necessaria iniziativa politica e sociale che riunisca in un fronte unitario tutto il PSE al fine di rendere più concreta ed evidente un’azione comune e dare maggiore visibilità a un fattivo impegno di tutte le forze democratiche che operano in ogni Paese d’Europa.

È venuto il momento, e non possono esserci più ritardi, che il PSE con più chiarezza e forza comunicativa metta in guardia i cittadini europei sui gravi pericoli che incombono sul nostro continente e allo stesso tempo affermi le sue posizioni e avanzi le sue proposte per quel che riguarda la sanità pubblica, la scuola, l’ambiente, il lavoro, i diritti civili e sociali e il fenomeno dell’emigrazione.
E non ultimo definisca quale sia il suo impegno per la pace e per un mondo senza guerre. Mostri sempre in queste sue iniziative unità compattezza e intenti comuni.
Non si può lasciare che la Destra faccia un’azione propagandistica su quelle che sono le sue politiche e allarghi i suoi consensi senza che non ci sia una risposta che denunci le falsità, la sua aroganza e le sue affermazioni strumentali.

Il PSE si renda più visibile, faccia sentire con più energia la sua “voce”. È necessario a tal fine organizzare una “Convention” del PSE che abbia come tema il ruolo dell’UE e come debbano essere affrontati e risolti i tanti problemi sopra citati, che hanno bisogno di urgenti soluzioni.
La sinistra europea, insomma, deve dimostrare di essere all’altezza di una sfida alle politiche e alle culture conservatrici della Destra, di essere capace di operare, in un contesto fortemente mutato, con azioni efficaci per la tutela delle numerose conquiste effettuate e per progettare un futuro di pace, di benessere e di democrazia.
A tal fine servirà che le forze progressiste e democratiche definiscano un programma alternativo a quello delle Destre in grado di ricomporre un sistema democratico e che garantisca libertà e progresso.
Con l’augurio che questo mio appello possa essere accolto le rivolgo i miei saluti.

Like many others, I too, as a member of the PES, feel the need to express some brief considerations to you regarding the role that the PES – Socialists & Democrats must play today in a historical context that has seen huge transformations and in which Europe is lost and confused.
We must not hide from the fact that, in this reality, what should concern us most of all is the rise of a well-organized and cohesive Right, which represents a great danger to democracy. The election of Trump and the domination of Musk have worsened the situation, as they aim to create a strong global front with the objective of weakening democratic and progressive forces and imposing distinctly totalitarian and imperialist policy.
This situation urgently and necessarily requires a political and social initiative that brings together the entire PES to form a unified front and take more concrete common action so as to give greater visibility to the effective commitment of all the democratic forces that are operating in each European country.
The time has come, and there can no longer be any delays, for the PES to communicate its message with greater clarity and impetus, warning European citizens of the serious dangers that are looming over our continent. At the same time, it must delineate its positions and put forward its proposals on public healthcare, education, the environment, work, civil and social rights, and the issue of migration.

And lastly and not least, it must clearly define its commitment to peace and a world without wars, continually demonstrating unity, cohesion, and shared objectives in these initiatives.
We cannot allow the Right to use European policy for its propaganda and expand its consensus, and promote its policies without there being a strong response to expose its falsehoods, arrogance, and instrumental claims.
The PES must become more visible and make its “voice” heard with greater energy. To this end, it is essential to organize a PES “Convention” focused on the role of the EU and how the many issues mentioned above, which require urgent solutions, should be addressed and resolved.
In short, the European Left must prove itself capable of meeting the challenge posed by the Right’s conservative policies and ideologies. It must show that it can operate effectively in a rapidly changing context, taking action to protect past achievements and plan a future of peace, prosperity, and democracy.
To achieve this, progressive and democratic forces must outline an alternative program to that of the Right, that is able to reassemble a democratic system and that can ensure freedom and progress.
